In case of serious illness or death among close relatives in the home country it may be necessary to establish contact with the relatives who are on holiday in Denmark. Nowadays, those in possession of a mobile phone will bring it along when holidaying in another country, but if you fail in reaching the person in question via the mobile phone or text messages, contact should be established between the police in the home country who will then contact the Danish police following an established procedure. During this process, it is evaluated whether the police may relay the message to the relatives or whether the police will use the local press to a certain extent. Finally, the police may decide to give the information to the National Danish Radio who on the newscast at 09.00 am will pass on the message to the foreign holidaymakers in Denmark. The information is provided in Danish, but only in cases of serious illness or deaths in the family.
To prevent these urgent contact situations, family members are advised to exchange relevant information points and times before travelling to Denmark.
